Great gift for a bird lover! Every year the Sewatorium Sisters make a quilt to benefit RSQ. The money from this sale will go to buy batting for the guild's charity quilts. We always have fun sewing together.
Bunny Hollow, by Sue Sharer
Second Prize, Small Quilts.
Small Quilt 50 x 50
Hand Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted
This was a project for Cathy Berry's class, to make a quilt with a center medallion surrounded by small blocks. Cathy designed the center medallion as well as the double heart blocks. Her daughter designed the 4 corner heart blocks. Thanks to both of them for making this such a fun and challenging project.
Spooky Neighbors, by Sue Sharer
Pattern Name: Dresden Neighborhood.
Small Quilt 25 x 25
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Machine Embroidered, Fused
I fell in love with this pattern when I first saw it. When Quilted Crow offered a class I thought it would be fun to do with my to-be-daughter-in-law. I selected Halloween fabrics for a Spooky Neighborhood.
It's in the Bag!, by Jan Shaw
Pattern Name: "Everything Bag" pattern from Missouri Star Quilts..
Quilted Object Quilt 20 x 31
Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered
As an old Chinese saying goes, "a cup of green tea a day and you will live to be 100!" Celestial Seasoning Green tea with lemon and ginseng is my favorite. The sun hand embroidered.
Africa Inspired, by Missy Shay
Original Design.
Small Quilt 48 x 55
Machine Pieced. Machine Quilted by Georgette Gagne
I purchased the African type fabrics at Cambridge Quilt many years ago. I decided on the top and bottom borders, chose the panel pictures, and then set out to figure out the filler pieces. Doing an improv-type quilt like this was not in my comfort zone, so it was a good exercise. I love how it turned out! I hope it finds a good home.
Asian Harmony, by Missy Shay
Pattern Name: Piecing With Poppers Sharon Mayers.
Small Quilt 46.5 x 57
Machine Pieced. Machine Quilted by Georgette Gagne
I bought fabrics in China and Japan. Last year a RSQ speaker's talk,"Trip Around the World" about fabrics she had acquired from foreign countries inspired me. I added fabrics from my stash and a couple from Cambridge Quilt. I love blue, white, and red. The fabrics of different densities all played well together. Many extra pieces are on the back.
Have Fun!, by Nancy Soyring
Pattern Name: Quarter Log Cabin Block.
Large Quilt 60 x 82
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Bright and scrappy and fun to make.
Leftovers, by Nancy Soyring
Small Quilt 31 x 27
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
From a recently discovered small bag of leftover scraps from a long ago project, there were just enough bits to make this. (If anyone remembers the pattern for this quilt originally made at a Saturday benefit workshop, let me know.)
With a Little Help from My Cat!, by Corinne Steigerwald
Pattern Name: Traditional Basket Quilt.
Large Quilt 65 x 81
Machine Pieced. Quilted by Melissa Heys on her Longarm
Classic traditional basket pattern with one basket knocked over by Cocoa the Cat!
Fabric: Rural Jardin by French Genera.
Prisms, by Corinne Steigerwald
Pattern Name: Chandelier Quilt.
Small Quilt 58 x 58
Machine Pieced. Longarm quilted by Louise Rains
I first saw this quilt pattern at a Burlington Quilt Guild show and then bought the book, Charm School, by Vanessa Goertzen. Her inspiration was from the movie Pollyanna. Pollyanna visits her neighbor and lines crystal prisms up in a window thereby refracting rainbows on the opposite wall. The orientation in this quilt "lets the light dance through the otherwise ordinary shapes."
Postage stamp quilt , by Peter Stringham
Pattern Name: postage stamp.
Small Quilt 36 x 52
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
A great challenge to make a quilt of such small squares. Find the birds.
Triptych , by Peter Stringham
Art Quilt 63 x 28
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Embroidered
The quilt incorporates a lot of techniques I've never done before--made-fabric, appliqué, and beading.
Caribbean Blues - Stress Relief, by Barbara Tarrh
Small Quilt 18 x 24
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, partially tea-dyed
For our annual bee challenge, we had the idea to make a quilt based on a tea name. I chose "Stress Relief", a Yogi tea blend.
Whenever I see photos of our anniversary getaways to the Caribbean, the images bring a sense of calm and serenity.
I collaged several scenes together to create this quilt.
Butterscotch, by Tarsha-Nicole Taylor
Pattern Name: Custom design.
Small Quilt 54 x 64
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Bits-n-Pieces Quilt Shop Pelham NH
The pattern is joint collaborative with my sister.
Bell Rock, by Becky Toland
Pattern Name: On the Southwest Trail.
Small Quilt 12 x 13.75
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Free motion quilted
We passed by Bell Rock several times during a family trip to Sedona, AZ several years ago. I purchased this pattern by Lynnae Ruske in a Sedona quilt shop and it went into my projects bin. Although it took a few years before I got this project completed, it's a great reminder of our trip and the beauty of the Southwest.
Kaleidoscope Kats, by Becky Toland
Pattern Name: Mod Cat.
Small Quilt 36 x 30
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Free Motion Quilted by Machine.
I love all things cat and had to have this pattern by Colourwerx when I saw it on-line. I spotted the blue, green and pink "Stripe Adelic" Bernartex fabrics in a quilt shop on a trip to Nevada and knew they would be a great alternative to doing slash'n sew with jelly roll strips. My husband told me the cats looked like a psychedelic kaleidoscope, hence the name.
Do You see What I See?, by Nancy Wasserman
Pattern Name: Technique: Trispective 3-N-1 Quilt by Flora Joy.
Small Quilt 18 x 18
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Painted
Look at the quilt from the left, from the front, and the right. Winter. Summer. Fall. When you see at a tree in nature, it has changed since the last time you noticed it. Leaves grow. Buds appear. Weather. Wind. Leaves change color. They fall off. The cycle repeats.
PROSPERITY, by Nancy Wasserman
Pattern Name: Pincushion by Laura Heines.
Small Quilt 41 x 45
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Couching
Since the Middle Ages needles and pins were expensive and hard to come by, so women stored them in decorative pincushions. During the Victorian era it was traditional to place a fresh tomato on the mantel of a new home for good luck and prosperity. If tomatoes were out of season, one was made from fabric.
Scrappy All Over, by Sandy Whitecross
Pattern Name: Sew Many Strips (adapted).
Large Quilt 88 x 102
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
In reviewing my monthly quilt subscriptions, I recently came across this pattern. I decided to make the blocks a bit larger all around to use even more scraps! On the back are larger scraps and the binding was made from leftover bindings from other quilts.
Flower Power, by Sherry Winkelman
Original .
Art Quilt 48 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
The crazy piecing in this quilt was inspired by a YouTube video from a Russian woodworker who makes breadboards from scraps of hardwood. The planks of random wood became my random strips; the table saw became my rotary cutter; and the glue became my sewing machine.
Schooners , by Sherry Winkelman
Original.
Small Quilt 28 x 56
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This is from a series of nautical 'Doodle Blocks' I designed. 'Doodle Blocks' start with a basic line drawing and are made by stacking 2+ fabrics of the same size; slice the fabric 'along' a pattern line; swap fabrics around and piece; re-stack, aligning seams; repeat. The tricky parts are continuously figuring out the cutting order and keeping like elements in the same fabric.
