I wanted to capture Leah as a little girl with Duckie . It seemed like a good idea to include Tiger, now 20 years old, as well. Sandy Gregg gave me a lot of help.
The Good Old Days, by Arlene Gavan
Second Prize, Large Quilts.
Large Quilt 90 x 90
Hand Pieced, Hand Quilted
The center block was influenced by Yoko Saito. I drew the picture of the house on a hill with children playing below. I also drew the toys that were used in the border.
Celtic Knots, by Jessica Gillis
Pattern Name: A New Age.
Large Quilt 72 x 88
Machine Pieced, Hand and Machine Quilted
This was a block of the month project from the Cambridge Quilt Shop who chose the pattern and material. I planned to machine quilt some nice designs in the big plain blocks. But after trying one I decided to hand quilt all the the Celtic knot designs. That makes my quilt unique from the other people who made that same quilt.
Farm Girl Modern, by Jessica Gillis
Pattern Name: Cambridge Quilt Shop Block of the Month.
Large Quilt 66 x 66
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted
I enjoyed making the blocks from the Farm Girl Vintage pattern book but I didn't want to make a traditional quilt. So I thought I would try using some of the modern quilt ideas, asymmetry and negative space in putting together the blocks. The quilting was inspired from a modern quilt I saw last winter.
Leaves, by Clare Gordon
Pattern Name: 54-40 and Fight and Four-Pointed Star blocks.
Large Quilt 101.5 x 113.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Trees and leaves are among my favorite things. I found inspiration in a couple of fabrics, then added other greens and experimented with some leaf-design quilting.
Chicken! , by Betsy Habich
Pattern Name: Barnyard Queen, by Ann Shaw.
Art Quilt 20.75 x 27
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted
I seldom make other people's patterns, but how could I resist? Begun in an Ann Shaw workshop at VQF, this chick is full of vibrant colors and verve!
Cotton fabric, batting, and thread. Machine pieced and quilted.
Fredlet and Tommy, by Betsy Habich
Original .
Art Quilt 20.5 x 16.25
Thread-painted
Fredlet and Tommy were frenemies, but here they are just hanging out together.
Respresenting all-black Fredlet was challenging. His black fur is a blend of black, very dark brown, very dark blue, and dark grays. Made from an original photo, heavily thread painted, with quilted border. Cotton fabric, batting, and thread.
Water Under the Bridge, by Betsy Habich
Original improv based on Maria Shell's prompts.
Art Quilt 33 x 45
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Thinking about my younger sister whom I lost to cancer in 2018, and our relationship, this improv seemed to have whitewater, a broken/partial bridge over it, and orange construction/warning fence to keep people out. Started in a Maria Shell workshop on curved seam improv, using Cherrywood solids. Cotton fabric, batting, and thread. Machine pieced and quilted.
Kaleidoscopes, by Margaret Hallisey
First Prize, Large Quilts.
Large Quilt 92 x 97

original design.
Art Quilt 42 x 42
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered, Hand Beaded
We talk about our neural network but it is not clear to us how it works. I used actual nerve drawings by Cajal who is considered the father of neuroscience. I designed the image in the center to envision the interaction in our brain.

Pattern Name: Mrs. Lincoln' Sampler by Lori Smith, designed in 2012.
Small Quilt 48 x 58
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted
I loved the whole process of making this 24 hand appliquéd and 24 hand pieced 5" block quilt. It combined my love of hand appliqué, piecing and hand quilting, and stretched me to do some machine quilting so I could finish it.

Artist Trading Cards, by Bee Quilt by Junior Quilters of RSQ, Junior Member Quilt
Art Quilt 30 x 35
Fused, Embellished with beads & buttons
This year, the junior quilters decided to make trading cards. Each card was made uniquely to each individual who made it.
Some cards depict stories or animals, while others are other worldly medleys of ideas. No matter what they look like, every card is a product of the imaginations of the junior quilters. *YAY*
This year the junior quilters made anything they wanted and each one was different.
Waimea Sunrise, by Eileen Kahan

This quilt was inspired by a Smithsonian Magazine photo. It was created during an 8 week class on "Color and Design" with Tica de Moor at the Emerson Umbrella. Tica provided the design and the students made the fabric choices. Pieced, fused, quilted, silk, cotton.
Flower Fiesta, by Dorien Keusseyan
Pattern Name: Kaleidoscope.
Large Quilt 65 x 74
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Intrigued by the bright colors in the fabric that makes up the center - I decided to try a kaleidoscope pattern. Once completed I thought it looked like a very festive flower garden!

Family Crest, by Karen Kishimoto
Small Quilt 24 x 24
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
On a recent trip to Japan, we found this design listed in a group of family crests for the Kishimoto name. My husband asked if I'd make a quilt in the design, and being the attentive wife I am, I went ahead and did it. He was pretty surprised but happy.
Double Tessellation, by Denise Konicek
Small Quilt 41 x 41
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I first saw this tessellation in a quilt book edited by Gai Perry "Quilts From Europe." There were no instructions or pattern. Many years after I saw it I inherited a huge stack of precut triangles from Bea Grayson. Realizing that I could use these to do the tessellation, I sat down and figured out how I could make it.

Art Quilt 16 x 18
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Painted
This is my favorite photo of my mother Trudie at any age (she was 85). She passed away 2 years ago at age 90.
