Peaceful Kingdom

Peaceful Kingdom , by Susan LaLone
Original.
Large Quilt 58 x 89
Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted by Liz at Bits and Pieces Quilt Shop, Pelham NH

My ancient UFO. This quilt was started in 1983 for my son to match his wallpaper. He was 4 years old. I was overly ambitious as this was my first quilting attempt. How hard could it be?... Fast forward to now, this quilt was finished in November 2017. I sent it out to be custom quilted as I didn't want another 35 years to pass while I hand quilted it!

My Painting Becomes a Quilt, by Nancy Mimno
Pattern Name: Artful Log Cabin.
Art Quilt 29 x 37
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted

Diana Bailey taught our class (Jane Norberg's) how to make a quilt inspired by Katie Pasquini Masopust's technique of starting with a photo and dividing the image into sections of artful log cabins. Instead of a photo, I chose one of my own paintings. Both that and the quilt are full of the greens that I love together with the analogous colors that set them off.

Waiting

Waiting, by Karen Pulaski

Art Quilt 32 x 22
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Collage with some thread painting.

I used one Kaffe fabric for the bird body. To make the leaves and her wing, I double sided the fabric and put the pieces on a stabilizer and stitched. The nest is strips of fabric that are loosely woven and strategically stitched to keep it in place. Free motion stitching the centers of the bottom flowers with maroon thread and stitching the leaves' veins with a lighter thread tied the two areas together.
