Amish Batik, by Florence Baturin
Pattern Name: Nine patch.
Large Quilt 82 x 90
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I fell in love with a package of 12 batik fat quarters at a Mancuso show. Several years later I found a photo of a wall hanging that would show off these fabrics to full advantage so I enlarged the pattern, bought black fabric, and voila!

Remembering Justine is my response to this year.
Shades of Gray, by Amanda Beland
Pattern Name: Evening Star.
Wall Quilt 39 x 39
Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted
I am a member of the Capital Quilter's Guild in Concord, NH, and we had a challenge called Shades of Grey with one accent color. I wanted to make the Evening Star quilt again, so I used this opportunity to make it. It was a fun challenge.
Sister's Choice, by Carolyn and Holly Bell
Pattern Name: Sister's Choice by Bonnie Hunter.
Large Quilt 66 x 75
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Machine Rental at Burlington Electric Quilters
We started this quilt five years ago in a workshop with Bonnie Hunter and Vermont Quilt Festival. It is a great reminder of a fun trip! The fabrics in the quilt include scraps from many wedding quilts, graduation quilts, and baby quilts over the years. We added the piano key border to use even more scraps!
Giving a Hoot, by Susan Bennett
Wall Quilt 54 x 64
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Calico Bass Studio
Fabric with unusual animals found in a quilt shop in Michigan. Working with black and white instead of colors was an interesting challenge!
Distractions in the Field, by Judy Botsford
Pattern Name: Throwing by Brigitte Heitland for Zen Chic.
Large Quilt 61 x 61
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Pattern found on Pinterest while looking for a perfect wedding quilt for daughter of friends. It is meant to grace the couch in their Brooklyn condo.

Gyotaku 1-4, by Amy Breiting
Wall Quilt 12 x 35
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Painted
Jane Davila taught classes at the Vermont Quilt Festival on painting fabric and a Japanese technique for measuring fish. She also reminded us to work in a series.
Busy Fingers, by Carol Brown
Pattern Name: Hexagons.
Wall Quilt 31 x 40
Hand Pieced, Machine Quilted
My sewing machines were not available for 4 months after I moved. I had to do something, so handmade hexagons were the solution. I made up the design as I went along, resulting in as many leftover hexagons as I put in the quilt.
Flowers and Friends, by Carol Brown
Original.
Wall Quilt 41 x 41
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This is a round robin, for which each member of my bee added fabric and piecing. The bee is composed of Marilyn Jackson, Ann Abbott, Adeline Mega, Rosemary Koch and me.
Celebration, by Susan Campos
Third Prize, Large Quilts.
Pattern Name: Double Wedding Ring.
Large Quilt 81 x 81
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This Double Wedding Ring quilt was made to celebrate our 53rd Wedding anniversary, but its name also reflects my feelings when it was completed. I was inspired to attempt this pattern by the Victoria Finlay Wolfe exhibition of her DWR Quilts at the Spring 2017 MQX show in Manchester, NH. The quilting designs were inspired by Pinterest postings by Kim Bruner. I pieced, assembled and quilted the quilt on my domestic Bernina 200.
Clowning Around, by Susan Campos
Wall Quilt 37 x 37
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Machine Embroidered
I bought the Amazing Designs clown alphabet designs back when they were distributed on 3-1/2" floppy discs. Fast forward a bit and I had a grand daughter in need of a wall hanging. It was a lot of fun accumulating the threads for the designs and the fabrics for the quilt. I like the results so much that this quilt may end up on my studio wall someday.
Autumn Weaves, by Erica Cavin
Pattern Name: Bob and Weave from the book Casting Shadows by Colleen Wise.
Wall Quilt 36 x 47
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
My husband used to weave so when I spotted this pattern I immediately wanted to make it for him. (OK, it did take a few years to get around to it.) He likes fall colors so that provided the palette. It was fun collecting and selecting the fabrics. It's a great pattern.
Rainbow Tucks, by Bonnie Cohen
Wall Quilt 38 x 22
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I enjoy the challenge of new techniques. This is true of "technical tucks", as developed in Caryl Bryer Fallert's work. The choice of color sequence is lots of fun.
Moonrise Over Wing Pond, by Sue Colozzi
Second Prize, Wall Quilts.
Wall Quilt 31 x 42
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused
Looking out my deck one evening, dusk was slowly transforming into night, and the landscape continuously changed into deepening, shades of purple and navy. The moon rose, lighting up the pond and sky into tones of lavender and shimmering blues. I experimented with satins, taffetas, and organza to replicate the scene.
Reeds in the Marsh, by Sue Colozzi
First Prize, Wall Quilts.
Wall Quilt 27 x 21
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
Great Sippewissett Marsh in West Falmouth is a beautiful place to observe nature's seasonal changes. In summer, the marsh grasses stand taller than their observers and sway with the sea breezes. Techniques employed are raw edge appliqué, fusing, couching, and layering organza. The reeds are made of burlap fibers.
Cooking with Red and Teal, by Christina Crouch
Pattern Name: The Quilt Block Cookbook Sampler.
Large Quilt 75 x 75
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Our bee decided to use the "Quilt Block Cookbook" as our challenge this year. We had to make 3 specific blocks and use red in them. The rest was up to the individual. I have had a red, teal and white quilt on my bucket list for awhile.
Mary's Trees, by Christina Crouch
Pattern Name: Pine tree blocks.
Large Quilt 70 x 70
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
The Sewatorium Sisters lost one of it's members last year, Mary D'Amico. We took in some of Mary's UFO's to finish. I believe these pine tree blocks were the last project she was working on. We thought of her and her love of quilting as we sewed. We miss her.
Elle, by Rachel Davis
Pattern Name: Elephant Abstractions.
Wall Quilt 54 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Louise Rains
Made at the Cambridge Quilt Shop, Spring 2017. Definitely something different for me! But elephants are irresistible, and the paper piecing was a lot of fun.
My Favorite Things, by Robbyn Dewar
Large Quilt 53.5 x 67.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I have been collecting fun, bright fabrics for some time. I saw a quilt on Pinterest that looked similar and I thought it would be a great use of those fabrics. I took the opportunity to quilt it (and about 12 other UFOs in my stash!) the final two weeks at Laurena's on her long arm quilt machine before she sold her business.
Fall in New England, by Susan Dresley
Pattern Name: Twigs & Branches by Bernadette Mayr.
Large Quilt 86 x 87
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I had fun buying fat quarters at fabric shops all over New England for this quilt. I sewed 231 trees (not all used), a fat quarter yielded 4 trees. Thanks to Nancy Howard for lending me her design wall.
