Our bee loves to eat and sew together. This we made from donated scraps, using a pattern called Tassels by Capitola Quilts. The money from the sale of this quilt will go to the guild to purchase batting for our charity quilts.

This quilt is hand pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted. The circle patterns are from the book "Circles - Floral Applique in the Round" by Bea Oglesby. The sashiko is from various sources. I love working with Asian fabrics and enjoyed every minute making this quilt.

The Sewatorium Sister decided on "Say it with Flowers" as the challenge for 2015 using a blue floral print. It was my lucky day when while checking out The Savage Quilter Shop in Oklahoma City I came upon this pattern which perfectly matched the fabric that we chose.

String block inspiration: May 2010 post on the Heartstrings blog, plus a bag of homespun and plaid fabric strips found on the free table at a RSQ guild meeting. Finally put blocks together in December 2014 and quilted it myself (with help from Gwen and Laurena) at Laurena's Longarm Quilting.

For the Birds

For the Birds, by Spring Fling Getaway Bee

These blocks were made, during a game, by the Spring Fling Getaway Group. Each person was given a bird block, white triangles, and a set of fabric strips. They had a hour to complete a 12 inch triangle block. After the show, the quilt will be donated.

This is a sister quilt to Madeleine's quilt. When my daughter told me they were expecting twins, I had already started a baby quilt with primary colors in a star pattern. I used the same fabric, some of which had come from clothes my mother in law had made for my daughter when she was a child, but a different pattern.

When my daughter told me they were expecting a baby; I started work on this quilt. I choose bright primary colored fabric and thought stars would be fun. Some of the fabric came from clothes that my mother in law had made for my daughter when she was a child. When my daughter told me they were expecting twins; I made a sister quilt with the same fabric in a different pattern.

Made as a part of our annual bee challenge, this quilt was a fun exercise in using subtle shades of blue. In order to fill the requirement to use a really bright blue floral, it was necessary to resort to some extreme fussy cutting!

The pattern was received as a door prize at a Keepsake Quilting Summer Sale. The appliqué and free motion quilting were new techniques for a newbie quilter. The quilt hangs in my sewing room, where the quilted cats join my own cats in watching me work on new quilting projects.

The Sewatorium Sisters are at it again with another bee challenge! This year we chose the theme "Say it With Flowers" and we had two fabrics that had to be included in our quilts, a bright floral and a blue tone on tone.
Each year our little challenge offers me an opportunity to stretch my talents in quilting. This year it was fusible appliqué.

I bought this Orion Star Quilt pattern by Mary B. Hayes during a Shop Hop last year because I liked the sample hanging in the shop and it used Thangles to create all of the half-square triangles. I had never used Thangles and wanted to try them, especially because I added extra blocks. There are 800 half-square triangles in this quilt!

Each casita at Sol y Luna, a charming lodge in the Urubamba Valley in Peru, had stained glass windows of the sun and moon which are my inspiration for the 2014 and 2015 WAQ challenges.
