Take a Ride on a Flying Carpet, by Diana Bailey
Challenge Quilt 16 x 24
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
I enjoy piecing curves using a top-stitch method. The flying geese were an experiment to see if I could do them on a curve. By coincidence they turned out to be the same colors, so were added to the quilt to make it into a flying carpet.

One If By Land and Two If By Sea . . . and One in the Air, by Sue Colozzi
First Prize, Challenge Quilts.
Challenge Quilt 24 x 16
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused
I took a photo of this Charles River view a couple years ago. I liked the way the lines of the Longfellow Bridge, Memorial Drive railings, and speed boat were all converging to the same point on the left. I've been wanting to make this view into a quilt for awhile, and this year's challenge theme seemed the perfect opportunity!
Perambulation, by Kendra Dowd
Original whole-cloth design.
Challenge Quilt 16 x 24
Hand Quilted, Fused, Painted, Stamped
Starting with a blank canvas of simple muslin, I really enjoyed painting the background, adding text with rubber stamps, hand quilting to add definition, and then (with my heart in my throat!) adding the splatter as the final element. MistyFuse proved to be the perfect tool for incorporating the footprints.
Crossing Lake Sunapee, by Susan Dresley
Challenge Quilt 24 x 16
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This is my first attempt at landscape quilting. In the summer, I watch the sailboats skim across the lake. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon!
Bicycle Fun, by Jessica Gillis
Challenge Quilt 24 x 14
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
After moving from rural CA a year ago I was really happy to be able to easily jump on my bike for a ride and use a bike as a form of transportation instead of a car. That was the inspiration for this quilt.
Minuteman Bikepath, by Marita Hartshorn
