Take one down, Pass it around, by Erin Scott
Second Prize, Large Quilts.
Large Quilt 72 x 83.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Paper pieced
This quilt was made as a Christmas gift for my husband. All of the 99 bottles are paper pieced from a pattern I found online at www.piecebynumber.blogspot.com. This quilt has over 1600 pieces in it. I had a really good time trying to find 99 different prints that would work as the beer labels.
A Magical Kingdom, by Erin Scott
Wall Quilt 14 x 18

This is part of a Bee Challenge by the Wednesday Afternoon Quilters. The patterns came from the book "Spellbinding Quilts" by Maaike Bakker.
Someday Under the Rainbow, by Sue Sharer
Pattern Name: Sampler.
Large Quilt 56 x 65
Hand Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted
This quilt was made as part of a class project to make a quilt using small squares. I chose to use 4 1/2" squares, piecing half and appliquéing the other half. My hope is that someday a grandchild will sleep under this rainbow quilt.
Wesley's Raindrops, by Sue Sharer
Third Prize, Large Quilts.
Large Quilt 90 x 80
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This is the Judy Niemeyer pattern "Raindrops". I took a class with Brenda Hall and made the quilt for my son, Wesley. I loved Judy Niemeyers paper piecing technique and want to make another one some day.
Progressive Sampler Collage: A Garden Party, by Janice Shaw
Pattern Name: Inside My Garden Gate: M'Liss Roe Hawley.
Large Quilt 70 x 52
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused
The Sewatorium Sisters were inspired by M'Liss Roe Hawley's Progressive Blocks Quilts. We each provided 4-5 fabrics and then exchanged stashes to make two blocks for each person. The final task was to put all twelve together. Oh, my! I came up with this sampler collage loosely based on My Secret Garden by Cindy Lammon.
Made in the U.S.A.; Loved in China, by Missy Shay
Pattern Name: "Saratoga" from Villa Rosa Designs.
Large Quilt 64 x 72
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
My son is living in China and we are going to visit him this fall. Because he won't be back in the US for some time, I wanted him to have a quilt that he could use in his apartment to remind him of home. I love Batiks and the earthy colors seemed right for this quilt.
Sewing with Foxes, by Missy Shay
Pattern Name: "Stacks" from the House of Tula Pink.
Wall Quilt 53 x 66
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Billie Berents wanted to use this pattern and convinced 3 other people from our Bee to make this quilt as well. It was a fun quilt to make, and went together quite quickly. I hope that someone will want to have it for their own and to love using it!
Rain on Cobblestones, by Stephanie Shore
Wall Quilt 50 x 20
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Overlay made of tulle
The background was inspired by images of cobblestone streets. Rain "puddles" were created by overlaying circles of tulle.

Andy's Quilt, by Nancy Soyring
Pattern Name: Delectable Mountains.
Large Quilt 106 x 106
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
My younger brother Andy is a big, gentle, wonderful guy. He loves to climb mountains, so I thought Bonnie Hunter's pattern "Scrappy Mountain Majesties" (quiltville.com) was just right for him.
Quiet Time, by Nancy Soyring
Pattern Name: Double Hourglass.
Wall Quilt 45 x 45
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Inspired by Elsa Risgin's scrap quilts, shown at Junior Quilter meetings. This is just one of the double hourglass quilts I made. The benefit quilt bee had fun with this pattern too.(But we still haven't made as many quilts as Elsa has!)
Baby quilt, by Peter Stringham

Blocks from Carol Doak's "300 Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks." This was the first of two.
Yellow and Blue Fans, by Cathy Taglieri
Pattern Name: Mag-i-cal Fans from Stack-n-Whack-Ipedia by Bethany Reynolds.
Large Quilt 81 x 90
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted by Laurie LaConte; Quilted Finishes
This quilt was started in a class led by Monique Thompson at Cambridge Quilt Shop. I decided to try a wall hanging size. After I made the first few fans, I loved them so much, I had to keep going... It was my first queen sized quilt. Laurie used her own design with the quilting to really finish it beautifully.
Twist and Turn Bargello, by Cathy Taglieri
Pattern Name: Aurora Borealis from Twist -and-Turn Bargello Quilts by Eileen Wright.
Wall Quilt 49 x 64.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurie LaConte; Quilted Finishes
I saw this pattern and bought the book about 2 years before I had time to make this quilt, which is unusual for me. Generally having a UFO or a "quilt in waiting" stresses me out. I really loved the undulating pattern.
Progressively Happy, by Barbara Tarrh
Large Quilt 55 x 73
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
Our bee challenged one another with a twist on a round robin quilt. We started with our own fabrics, some guidelines for their use, & specific quilt block designs. Each quilter got the package & had to contribute blocks. The result was a crazy, inspiring smorgasbord! I assembled & added to my bee buddies efforts; the more I sewed, the happier the quilt seemed. Thank you to my Sewatorium Sisters!
New Waves for John, by Barbara Tarrh
Wall Quilt 51 x 67
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Inspired by Elisabeth Hartmans New Wave pattern, I began to collect novelty fabrics that reminded me of my husbands many interests. The piecing was begun on our guilds getaway, and the quilting was finished in time for his October birthday. Perfect to use during our 1st empty-nest fall!
A River Runs Through Waterville Valley, by Pamela Turner
Original Pattern (with help from nature!).
Wall Quilt 14 x 18
Machine Quilted, Fused, Embellished
This is a snapshot of curious moose looking my way as I traveled into Waterville Valley one morning in early October. It is part of our WAQ bee challenge, "A river runs through...."
Tropical Rain, by Beth Valliere

I love this design and I love bright, bright colors.
French Provincial Criss Cross, by Lynn Vogt
Pattern Name: Anita's Arrowhead Block.
Large Quilt 80 x 70
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This block pattern has been making the circuit around the guild over the past year or so with a 9" finished block size. I up sized the blocks to 11" by using pre cut 10" squares and adjusting the cutting measurements. I can't wait to use it in my blue and yellow themed vacation house.
Progressively Bluer , by Lynn Vogt
Large Quilt 65 x 65
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
I have always wanted to make a blue and white quilt and our bee progressive block challenge seemed like a perfect time to try one. I like the fact that the limited color pallet gives the quilt continuity. My bee friends will always be with me because they each made a part of my quilt. I love it! Thank you Sew-a-torium Sisters.
Danish Winter, by Anne Walker
Pattern Name: Log Cabin.
Large Quilt 78 x 58
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Our first winter living in Denmark was quite difficult. The days were particularly dark and gloomy and grey that year. I was so desperate for color that I chose these candy bright pinks and greens which are normally too sweet for me!
A River Runs Through The Monterey Bay Aquarium Jellies Exhibit , by Nancy Wasserman
Wall Quilt 18 x 14
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Embellished
Jellyfish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Lost in the Forest, by Sandy Whitecross
Pattern Name: adapted from "The Grove" by Carolyn Friedlander.
Large Quilt 70 x 80
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
In a recent class, I learned how to paper piece using this pattern. In order to practice the skill, I kept making unique trees above the twelve required for the project. By the end, I think I got the hang of this form of paper piecing. Can you find the tortoise lost in the forest?
Quilt of Valor Mystery #28, by Sandy Whitecross
Large Quilt 76 x 76
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Following the show, this quilt will be heading off to a recently wounded American soldier or to a veteran. This is but a very small way that I can repay those who have given so much of themselves to protect us and others around the world. For more information see qovf.org.
Happy Scraps, by Linda Whitehead
Wall Quilt 36 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This quilt is a fun way to use scraps of fabric. An even easier quilt would be one with a single color scheme.
Wyoming Valley, by Linda Whitehead
Wall Quilt 14 x 18
Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused, Trees made with thread
This is my first, and probably last, landscape quilt. It incorporates many new, to me, techniques such as fabric bonding, net overlay, fabric painting, additional batting in certain areas for dimensionality, and the thread trees and bushes. It was definitely a challenge for the WAQ bee members.
Key Lime Pie, by Sherry Winkelman
Wall Quilt 56 x 56
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
A little experiment with strata using bold geometric prints in strips of various widths. The results here have inspired me to expand the techniques to scrappy versions which have a very contemporary feel, using hexagon and octagon block arrangements, and to developing my first quilt patterns.
