Low Tide, by Eileen Kahan
Wall Quilt 28 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Fused
This wall hanging was inspired by a Karen Eckmeier design in her book "Layered Waves" as well as its resonance with my early years on Long Island, NY where the beach motif permeates memory. I tried to express the ripples of reflected light on calm waters and the contrasting sands of low tide.
My Stash Runneth Over, by Eileen Kahan
Wall Quilt 23 x 18
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Glued
This wall hanging began as an experiment in abstract design. Not surprisingly, a woman began to emerge. For me, it expresses the compelling nature of fabric and the project ideas that float through my awareness. I also wanted to experiment with free motion fills. She makes me smile!
Hexies on the Run - Er, by Debra Kamm-Pelles
Wall Quilt 18 x 46
Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted
I truly enjoy modern quilts that show a juxtaposition between machine quilting and hand quilting and/or traditional blocks with modern fabrics and colors. I hand appliquéd the hexies, machine quilted the runner and then hand quilted using pearl cotton to highlight the hexi bands.
Circle of Friends, by Lori Kay
Wall Quilt 42 x 48
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered
The happy result of a Row Robin project with a special Circle of Friends. I supplied the Kaffe Fassett and the Lonni Rossi fabric. My friends added a bit of their own fabrics (and quilting expertise). I had fun designing the asymmetrical border with the wandering flying-geese blocks and a single maverick star.
Dresden Party, by Lori Kay
Wall Quilt 53 x 65
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
A whimsical combination of vintage Dresden plate pieces (picked up at an RSQ auction), vintage floral fabrics (found at a quilter's yard sale), 30's reproduction and modern fabrics. The scalloped border was a satisfying challenge.
Calico Garden Quilt, by Ginny Leonardos
Third Prize, Wall Quilts.
Pattern Name: The Galico Garden Quilt.
Wall Quilt 36 x 45
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
This quilt is a pattern from The Shelbourne Museum by Florence Peto. Mrs. Peto was the featured exhibitor one year at the Vermont Quilt Festival and I fell in love with her quilts. It has taken me easily 3-4 years, between other projects, to complete and I have enjoyed every minute!
Zen Quilt, by Phyllis Maddox
First Prize, Large Quilts.
Large Quilt 108 x 101
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Hand Dyed Fabrics and a little 'pen stitching'
This is a double sided quilt done "quilt as you go". Each block was quilted on my Bernina then sewn togather with sashing. The patterns come from many many quilting instructors as well as Zentangle (a copy-written method of teaching doodling) websites. Some of the fabrics are hand dyed.
Asian Flowers for Diana, by Gwen Marceline
Large Quilt 52 x 76
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I won a Stack 'N Whack table runner top made by Carol Miller at our 2013 Guild Auction. I admire Carol's work and wanted to showcase the blocks. Downsizing and rearranging six blocks on an Asian floral background fabric with a similar colorway led me to this design. A gift for my dear friend, Diana.
Reading Between the Lines, by Gwen Marceline
Pattern Name: Covent Garden.
Wall Quilt 50 x 70
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
When I saw this quilt pattern I knew I had to make it!
Bird on a Lake, by Briny McClain, Junior Member Quilt
Wall Quilt 9 x 10.5
Machine Appliquéd, Fused
I made this quilt with the RSQ junior quilters. I did mostly fusion but sewed on the border. Thank you to my grandmother Paulette Schwartz for helping me with the sewing.
Geometric Rainbow, by Briny McClain, Junior Member Quilt
Wall Quilt 34 x 34
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
I like the way the colors complement each other. There's a pattern to the colors -- see if you can it. I got help from my grandmother Kay McClain.
Nova Scotia 1992, by Kathleen McCormick
Pattern Name: adapted from Stone Cottage by Judy Martin.
Large Quilt 93 x 96
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This quilt was inspired by the moose fabric and our honeymoon in Nova Scotia. The McKenna Ryan fabric was perfect as was the Judy Martin pattern.
Shoreline Sampler, by Kathleen McCormick
Pattern Name: Sampler pattern from Crafsty 2012 Block of the Month.
Wall Quilt 48 x 48
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
The "Shoreline" fabrics from Marcia Derse were the inspiration for this modern sampler (from Craftsy.com). I challenged myself to take an online machine-quilting class from Craftsy and Leah Day.
Log Cabin in The Woods, by Delores McCravy
Large Quilt 72.5 x 95
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
A pattern by John Flynn, called "Log Cabin in The Woods", was found on the free table at one of our Quilt Guild meetings. My decision, when making this quilt, was to replace some of the tree blocks with log cabin house blocks.
A River Runs Through The Smoky Mountains, by Delores McCravy
Wall Quilt 14 x 18
Hand Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted, Fused
This quilt was inspired by my growing up in and around the Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee. It is part of the WAQ'S Bee challenge, "A River Runs Through...."
A Piece of Cake, by Carolyn McShane
Large Quilt 69 x 85
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered
My mother helped iron the fabric, pin the curves, press the pieces, clip threads, choose the layout design and crochet most of the doilies. The rest was "A Piece of Cake!"
Bob - One Love, by Jean Necheles
Wall Quilt 55.5 x 60
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Georgette Gagne
This is a thank you gift. Del drove me to and from work for 2 months and did not want anything in return. From Bob Marley's One Love Album cover art.
African Rhythms, by Bonnie Newman
Wall Quilt 46 x 46
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Fused
An original design built around and inspired by African Batiks
One Urn Times Nine, by Bonnie Newman
Wall Quilt 36 x 36
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Fused
An assignment in a course with Bea Grayson to try variations on a theme.
Stepping Through the Meadow, by Ellen O'Brien
Pattern Name: Jacob's Ladder.
Large Quilt 92 x 116
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Please join the butterflies and dragonflies as they gracefully explore a meadow created from beautiful batik fabrics. Many thanks to Laurena McDermott for her machine quilting guidance.
1840 Yo Yo's later, by Helen Pride
Pattern Name: Yo Yo's.
Large Quilt 90 x 105
Hand Pieced, Yo Yo's made by hand
I decided to bust my fabric stash by making Yo Yo's and I got a bit carried away! I just kept going until I had enough for an oversized bed quilt. It took me 6 months to complete, but I loved how it turned out and I loved making all these Yo Yo's. And YES, there are 1840 little Yo Yo's in this quilt.
Sisters Block Party Challenge, by Helen Pride
Large Quilt 60 x 76
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Our bee challenge. Each of our bee members were to make the equivalent of two 12" blocks out of the material I selected and return them to me. It was then my challenge to put the blocks together in a pattern.
Noah's Quilt, by Anne Risgin
Pattern Name: Freeform Crosses.
Wall Quilt 34 x 44
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This was a baby gift, although a bit late. (The baby just turned one.)
The Quilt That Shall Not Be Named, by Elsa Risgin, Junior Member Quilt
Pattern Name: Bento Box.
Wall Quilt 41 x 56
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This is my first batik quilt. I really like it and am going to keep it for myself.
Blue and Tan for Dan, by Evelyn Rossin
Pattern Name: Square in a Square.
Large Quilt 57.5 x 77.5
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This was made as a gift to my son for college graduation. He loves blue and tan and he really liked the square in a square pattern. This was especially satisfying because I recently started quilting on the longarm machine and I am really hooked.
Kittens At Play, by Evelyn Rossin
Wall Quilt 43.75 x 63
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I had the Kitty Cucumber panel for a long time and wanted to do something fun with it. I came up with a layout and piecing design on my own and was thrilled with the result. It's one of my favorite quilts
