Sisters See Red, by Sewatorium Sisters Bee
Pattern Name: Anita's Arrowhead.
Large Quilt 70 x 90
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
The Sewatorium Sisters Bee had fun using a red and white theme for a block design named 'Anita's Arrowhead.' We each donated several blocks, sewed them together and loved the results of our combined efforts. This quilt is being sold to buy supplies for the guild's benefit quilts.
Lazy Magic, by Sue Sharer
Large Quilt 75 x 75
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
The blocks in this quilt were part of Quilter's Way block of the month. The theme was "Skies over" (3 cities) and I chose Tokyo for the beautiful Asian fabrics. I named it Lazy Magic because the blocks used the "Lazy Angle" ruler, and I was inspired by a pattern called "Chinese Magic" for the final assembly.
Karen Stone Star, by Sue Sharer
Wall Quilt 33 x 33
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I took a class in foundation paper piecing at Cambridge Quilt Shop with Missy Shay. The pattern was Karen Stone's Yardbirds Circling the Cat. It was a fun way to learn paper piecing. I love Karen Stone's patterns and look forward to making another in the future.

Super Quilter is a pattern given to me as a Christmas present from a fellow Bee member. The pattern is an Amy Bradley design. Making it using our Sewatorium challenge fabric seemed more than appropriate! And, of course, we are all Super Quilters!

Wall Quilt 56 x 57
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted, beaded
All Around the Town by Quakertown Quilts, Inc. was a block of the month project at Cambridge Quilt in 2005-06. I did the appliqué, put the blocks away, and eventually put the whole thing together. Intending to hand quilt it- life is too short- I did a combination of hand and machine quilting. It is finished!!

Sahima's Stars, by Nancy Soyring
Pattern Name: Diamond Star.
Large Quilt 72 x 79
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted

Lunenburg Barn Revisited, by Jean Stringham
Wall Quilt 41 x 33
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
I am intrigued by the painting of a barn in Lunenburg, Massachusetts by Charles Sheeler. He printed several photographs of the barn together and then made a painting that now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The geometric shapes motivated me to make a wall hanging.
Crocodile , by Peter Stringham
Wall Quilt 33 x 40
Hand Pieced, Machine Quilted
I designed this quilt as a cover for a graphic novel called "Crocodile." I tried lots of different folds to finally decide on the right pattern for the scales. The teeth are cut from a yogurt container.
Optical illusion, by Peter Stringham
Wall Quilt 46 x 53
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena MacDermott
A blue and yellow optical illusion on one side--the same red and green pattern on the reverse. Note the clever quilting by Laurena MacDermott so that the hanging sleeve is invisible on both sides of the quilt.
Puzzle for Dan, by Barbara Tarrh
Pattern Name: 3 Dudes' Jelly Roll Quilt.
Large Quilt 59 x 78
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
An easy yet interesting strip piecing and cutting method from Missouri Quilts led to this quilt for my brother Dan. I used most of a batik jellyroll, had fun trying to find a pattern in various block arrangements and added asymmetrical borders to make it lap-sized. Putting this quilt together was a successful solution to the need to "just sew!"
Buttons and a Tiger, by Barbara Tarrh
Wall Quilt 19 x 19
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Machine Quilted, Fused
The Sewatorium Sisters' bee challenge this year was to use several sewing themed fabrics in an anything-goes type of quilt. Buttons in one fabric suggested buttonbush and the creatures that feed from its nectar.
Fractured Flowers, by Tuesday Travel Bee
Wall Quilt 54 x 42
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted, Hand Embroidered, Machine Embroidered, Fused, Painted
We each created a whole flower, quartered it, and constructed a new composite flower which was then embellished. The inspiration was a work featured in the International Quilt Festival Magazine. Twisted Sister, by Pamela Turner
Large Quilt 57 x 68
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
Using the 'Lil' Twister' template I was reminded of the party game of "Twister" where one had to carefully plan out each move. Here too the quilt blocks were shuffled around before their final placement. Can you find the two 'odd blocks'--the ones built with different 'mortar?' "Twisted Sister" will be a gift for my sister.
Blowing' in the Wind, by Pamela Turner
Third Prize, Quilted Objects.
Pattern Name: Seaside Bag.
Tote Bag 12 x 12
Machine Pieced
This is my entry for our WAQer's Bee Challenge. We were encouraged to try a folded fabric technique and then turn it into a tote bag. My love of the beach and a relatively simple pattern called out to me.
I Carry Your Heart With Me, by Beth Valliere
Large Quilt 84 x 101
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted by Laurena McDermott
This quilt has 100 hand-appliquéd hearts: 99 on the front and one on the back. I started it for my daughter 18 years ago, to give to her when she got her first apartment. I finished this year; she is 27! I borrowed the quilt name from the E.E.Cummings poem which expresses how I feel about my daughter.

Crossroads, by Lynn Vogt
Pattern Name: Crossroads.
Wall Quilt 50 x 64
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This pattern is from an old American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. I thought jewel tones would be a "bright" idea! I enjoyed doing the quilting myself, freehand, at Laurena's Studio with two different designs in the border and a meander in the center. A successful learning experience.
Runaway Thread, by Lynn Vogt

Wall Quilt 30 x 20

Pappap's Happy Colors in Linen, by Anne Walker
Large Quilt 46 x 77
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Anne Walker and Barbara Tarrh
My grandfather was a self taught painter and liked "happy colors". This was my first time working with linen which is slippery and difficult to keep square. I chose simple squares of Pappap's happy colors for this experiment. They pop nicely against the linen which helped keep me sane when I was ready to scream at the linen.
Sew-a-torium Sisters Challenge Surprise, by Anne Walker
Wall Quilt 20 x 20
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
Our bee, the Sew-a-torium Sisters spend a lot of time talking and eating and sometimes we do quilty things too. This is our annual challenge using a base set of 3 fabrics and staying under 100". This is what happened.
Jelly Rolled Out - Planned Randomness, by Nancy Wasserman
Large Quilt 98 x 96
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Laurena MacDermott
There was a jelly roll race (didn't win). Wanted queen size - fabrics patterns and colors spread out across quilt. Calculated length of jelly roll - made mini paper jelly roll to plan out the random placement of fabrics. Thought I was so smart - jumped step in planning. Result - quilt top not as random as planned - made necessary changes.

Great Shapes, by Sandy Whitecross
Pattern Name: Serenity Circles.
Large Quilt 71 x 84
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted
This quilt was started in the class "Serenity Circles" at The Button Box, taught by Lynne Godin. Lynne shared her adaptation of the pattern making it a fun and easy quilt to put together. It was so much fun, I increased the size from 56" square to a large twin, enjoying the various shapes that evolved as I sewed.
Fancy Flowers, by Linda Whitehead
Large Quilt 64 x 64
Machine Pieced, Hand Appliquéd, Machine Quilted
The flower panels were purchased at separate times, several years ago. When I decided to assemble the quilt, there were eight flowers with white backgrounds and twelve with black. The center medallion makes up for the "missing" whites. It will be used as a tablecloth on a round wicker table.
The Albatross, by Linda Whitehead
Pattern Name: Variation of Grandmother's Garden.
Large Quilt 68 x 96
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted by Barbara Malek
The term "albatross" refers to a psychological burden that feels like a curse, based on the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. After starting this quilt with 4000+ pieces in the early 1990's and before finally completing it in 2011, I felt it was definitely my albatross. Source: a quilt from the early 1800's.
Floating Hearts, by Gail Willett
Wall Quilt 30 x 28
Machine Pieced, Machine Appliquéd, Hand Quilted, Machine Quilted
I love Japanese quilts and as I was browsing through the book ALL MY THANKS and LOVE to QUILTS I saw an inspiration for this quilt.
