I presented this quilt to my son at a surprise party in celebration his 50th birthday. Family members were invited to submit photos and signed blocks, and friends encouraged to send a message. It was fun contacting invited guests for their comments, and grouping photos by family.

I participated in a class taught by Pamela Druhen and hosted by RSQ in April 2012. I learned about fabric value and color placement to differentiate near and far distance in a picture. I used various shades and types of green and brown thread when quilting to add depth to this framed landscape.

The birth of The Copper Country Baroque Festival began this summer on the shores of Lake Superior with a cello and a lute. This quilt was made for my daughter Kate (the cellist) to hang over the fireplace in her new London home this fall. The patterns are my own.

I drew the design sections for the piecing: the stippling was done free-hand on a home sewing machine with mylar thread. There is one continuous line of stippling around the star and another around the black border, each starting and stopping in the same place. Remembering to breathe while quilting was the only problem I had with this quilt!

This quilt, is one of my favorites. The simple lines and beautiful colors give it an elegance that never wears out. The "leading" is fusible bias tape, stitched on both edges, the stipple quilting was done freehand on a home sewing machine.

I started this quilt in a class taught by Kathleen McCormick at the Cambridge Quilt Shop. I began with fabric leftover from the first quilt class I ever took. When I needed more fabric, I was happy to discover that the colors used in that long ago class had come around again.
