I had just found these 1946 photos of my brother and me when the "silver" theme was announced. I said to myself, "Hi-Yo Silver!".
My love of the Wild West came from comic books, half hour radio shows and Saturday afternoon double features at the movies.

This inspiration for this quilt was my daughter, who has always loved dolphins. I immediately thought of their silvery bodies as well as the silvery froth of sea spray from their splashing in the waves. Storm at Sea block seemed appropriate for the backdrop.

The Dancing Ribbons pattern, sent by my Mom, reminded us both of my Spirograph. I immediately saw it as a color-wheel. Silk fabric and a silvery-colored center give it a rich feel that I really love!

Inspired by the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, my quilt depicts the winter scene leading to the transformation of the garden from neglect to beauty. The quilt is hand embroidered, hand appliquéd, hand beaded, I have used machine embroidery for quilting.

My search for silver led me to a thrift store where I found an silver silk necktie. I de-constructed the necktie and, using a modified version of Lisa O'Neill's technique of inserting slivers, added the silver tie to the blue hand-dyed fabrics, created this unique design.

The guild�s �Splash of Silver� challenge resulted in 2 difficult and time-consuming tasks � finding silver in a variety of fabrics and ramping up my sewing skills to manage Ricky Tims� Kool Kaleidoscope pattern. There�s a splash of silver, a touch of gold, and lots of other fabrics in this mind-bending (as least for this quilter) quilt.
