I Love Blue, Yellow and White

I Love Blue, Yellow and White, by Missy Shay
Pattern Name: Morning Garden-Kaffe Fassett.
Large Quilt 86 x 95
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted on a long arm machine

I had bought some fabrics in Provence in France that I wanted to use. They were blue, yellow and white. Some years back I started a hand pieced sampler quilt with the same palette so I hoped to combine fabrics. Alas, they did not play well together so the French fabrics remain unused and I made this quilt instead.

Large Quilt 65 x 65
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Machine Embroidered, Machine Quilted by Laurena's Longarm Quilting

Inspired by Jacqueline de Jonge's pattern, "Circle of Life," I changed the color palate and then the color placement to make the quilt look a little more random. Although it was paper pieced, the quilt was a fiend to put together. Jean saved me from a psychotic break.

Andrew's Cuppa

Andrew's Cuppa, by Barbara Tarrh

Wall Quilt 49 x 67
Hand Pieced, Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Painted

I hand pieced a bunch of tumbler blocks during my son Andrew's senior year in high school. When the rows were assembled, they looked just like shelves of the coffee cups he kept constantly filled that year. Once a few handles were added for emphasis, the quilt had to be his as he headed away to college.

After receiving a stack of Christmas fabrics for our Bee project, the pears in one fabric reminded me of my Mom's passion for them. Designing a quilt around a fruit bowl filled with pears brought back many childhood memories of time spent with her in the kitchen.

Wall Quilt 42 x 56
Machine Pieced, Some embellishments, Machine Quilted by Melissa Heys "The Completed Quilt"

The beautiful mermaid fabric landed in "my net" on a get-away to Cape Cod and was fussy cut to fit a "Quilter's Way" pattern. The initial inspiration for this present to my great niece, Alex, was her glittery Halloween mermaid costume. Today, with hair flying, she is a graceful surfer on the shores of Cape Cod.

Here Comes The Sun

Here Comes The Sun, by Lynn Vogt
Pattern Name: Red Onion from Karla Alexander's Stack A New Deck.
Large Quilt 54 x 72
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted

I truly enjoy working with color by choosing a lead fabric and then finding others that play well with it. A pattern like this is perfect for such a study in color. For the quilting I tried renting time on a midarm, table mounted, sit down machine. It provided lots of space to move the quilt. Quite fun!

Interchange

Interchange, by Sherry Winkelman

Wall Quilt 41 x 29
Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted, Embelished with electronic components

This quilt was inspired by a photo of a highway interchange in Yokahama. But the name "Interchange" made me also think of information exchange. I chose black, white, and red fabrics for their graphic effect and added "cars" of electronic components traveling along and parked below the ribbons of highway. Or are they really bytes of information?

Isometry Abstract I

Isometry Abstract I, by Sherry Winkelman

Wall Quilt 17 x 29
Hand Pieced, Machine Quilted

Start with four baggies of small "scraps of mixed hues of blue, primarily 19th century" fabrics from the Quilt Museum. What to do? Tiny tumbling blocks would have the least amount of waste. But wait, that's not me. Play with the isometric graph paper and add in some contemporary fabrics and some other structures. Viola, an isometric abstract.
