My grandson was interested in a quilt made from Asian style fabrics. I really enjoyed making this quilt, even though the red borders were challenging. It was worth the effort and I am pleased with the outcome. I hand appliquéd the circles, machine pieced everything else, and it is machine quilted.

Her daughter designed the 4 corner heart blocks. Thanks to both of them for making this such a fun and challenging project.

I met my husband in a batik class at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. After meeting we didn't do any more batik, so this large center flower was left in a bag unfinished. Forty years later I finally got inspired to remove the wax and create this quilted garden scene adding other commercial fabrics.

We talk about our neural network but it is not clear to us how it works. I used actual nerve drawings by Cajal who is considered the father of neuroscience. I designed the image in the center to envision the interaction in our brain.

This is a scene from a sheep farm nearby. The vision of the sheep�s wool, the hay bale and the grass gave so much texture to the scene I wanted to create the image in a quilt. I felted wool from the sheep to add more dimension to the quilt.

This Double Wedding Ring quilt was made to celebrate our 53rd Wedding anniversary, but its name also reflects my feelings when it was completed. I was inspired to attempt this pattern by the Victoria Finlay Wolfe exhibition of her DWR Quilts at the Spring 2017 MQX show in Manchester, NH. The quilting designs were inspired by Pinterest postings by Kim Bruner. I pieced, assembled and quilted the quilt on my domestic Bernina 200.

Great Sippewissett Marsh in West Falmouth is a beautiful place to observe nature's seasonal changes. In summer, the marsh grasses stand taller than their observers and sway with the sea breezes. Techniques employed are raw edge appliqué, fusing, couching, and layering organza. The reeds are made of burlap fibers.

Looking out my deck one evening, dusk was slowly transforming into night, and the landscape continuously changed into deepening,shades of purple and navy. The moon rose, lighting up the pond and sky into tones of lavender and shimmering blues. I experimented with satins, taffetas, and organza to replicate the scene.

Diego Rivera placed all of Frida Kahlo's clothing into storage when she died, and demanded they stay locked up until 15 years after his death. In 2004, her elaborate outfits were set free and are now part of the Frida Kahlo museum in Mexico City.

To make it king-size, I added the hour-glass blocks to showcase each sampler block. It was made to celebrate my 50th wedding anniversary coming in 2015.

The blocks consist of fussy cut focus blocks and nine patches. It was quilted in the Baptist Fan pattern on the Statler machine at Laurena's Longarm Quilting.

I designed this portrait as a wedding present for my sister. I collected the myriad batiks for the portrait each time I went to a new fabric shop. I pinned well over a thousand small rectangles of fabric onto the background, and the rectangles were attached during the machine quilting process - I removed the pins as I sewed.

This is a double sided quilt done "quilt as you go". Each block was quilted on my Bernina then sewn togather with sashing. The patterns come from many many quilting instructors as well as Zentangle (a copy-written method of teaching doodling) websites. Some of the fabrics are hand dyed.

The Boston Public Garden is one of my favorite places to visit. I love trying to find fabrics that through color, texture, and transparency convey a sense of reality. The two types of lace I used closely resembled the flowers in the trees, and the chiffons helped to diffuse the colors in the reflections.

While thinking about the Challenge Theme I found myself holding two different spools of thread in my hand. Both were spools (the "same") but shaped so differently - I knew right away that it was the shape that I wanted to highlight, hence the silhouettes. Fusing captured the fine details best.

The quilt should keep us warm during the cold months to come.

Created in 2004 for my elderly mother, a gifted seamstress who taught me to sew. The quilt was returned to me upon her death, at 90, in June. Each center picture is specific to her life history. I hoped they would occupy her mind, and that the feel of the cloth would be a tactile comfort.

This was created for a colleague in honor of her ordination. The light house is located at her childhood beach. She often draws it, and I stole one of her drawings to create the piece. Throughout her accreditation process I informed her that she could not just pass her exams, she had to be "stellar!" She was, so I bestowed her with this stole to honor the occasion.

My (then future) husband, Rufus Seder, and I collaborated on this quilt as a gift for his newborn nephew. The design is based on a piece of Rufus's art. He hand-printed the fabric in his darkroom using cyanotype imaging. I machine-pieced, hand-quilted, and finished the piece.
